Board of Trustees

  • Kip Tellez
  • Kip Tellezis a professor in the Education Department at the University of California at Santa Cruz. He has two daughters, one at SLV High, the other a recent SLV graduate who is now in her second year at Occidental College in Los Angeles. He is beginning his second term on the board after previously serving on the SLVMS Site Council as well as participating on the writing team for SLE's Distinguished Schools application. A specialist in language teaching, he received his PhD in Education from the Claremont Graduate University. He bike commutes to UCSC about twice a week, so say "Hi" if you see him on the road.   • Lea Dakota

    Lea Dakota  A seventeen-year employee of the San Lorenzo Valley  district, her positions included administrative assistant in the business accounting, curriculum development and student services departments  as well as serving as a registrar. In her retirement she continues to work part-time at the County Office of Education in the Alternative Education Department. Term 2012-2016 Area 5 (5027A)

  • George Wylie

    George Wylie is a retired Naval Officer and former United Airlines 767 Captain. He and his wife Cathy have three sons - two SLV graduates who are away at college, and a third who is attending SLV High School. George is passionate about public education and has been a long-time volunteer for many school, classroom and district related activities. He earned his B.A. at the University of Washington in Seattle, and his M.S. at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. Term 2010-2014 Area 1 (5017B)

  • Kathy Ritchie

    Kathy Ritchie is the current President, a mother of four children and an active member in the community. She has participated as a volunteer in SLVUSD for many organizations such as the Boulder Creek Parent Club, BCE Site Council, BCE Gate Committee, Art Masterpiece Coordinator, Nature Academy Parent Council, SLVHS Site Council, Cougar Club, as well as volunteering in the classroom for over fourteen years. Term 2010-2014 Area 2 (5018A)

  • Laura Dolson is the current Board Clerk, a health writer, most recently focusing on issues related to diet and nutrition.  She earned a B.S. in physical therapy at the University of Vermont, and an M.A. in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology - San Diego. She was an active volunteer in the SLVUSD, serving on many school and district committees, including the Parent Councils of Boulder Creek Homeschool and the Nature Academy.  Her daughter is a 2009 graduate of SLV High School. Term 2012-2016 Area 3 (5013A)

Meetings

The Board typically meets on the first and the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings begin at 6:00pm. Please check the district calendar to confirm meeting dates and times. Board Meetings are held in the Multi-Use Room at the District Office on the Quail Hollow campus, 325 Marion Avenue, Ben Lomond. See the Board Agendas and Minutes for more details. Overview of Responsibilities

The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees sets policy for the operation of the District and is responsible for the following general duties:

  • Setting direction for the District
  • Providing a basic organizational structure for the District by establishing policies
  • Ensuring accountability
  • Providing community leadership on behalf of the District and public education
To fulfill these basic responsibilities, the Board shall hire, evaluate and support the Superintendent so that the vision, goals and policies of the District can be implemented.



Public Comments

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees welcomes the public to its meetings. If you wish to address the School Board regarding issues not on the agenda, please step to the microphone during Community Input. Community comments usually take about three minutes each. To comment about items on the agenda, please wait until after the Board has completed its discussion of the item. Once the Board President asks for community input, please step to the microphone to address the Board.
